SOMERS, Michael James Peter
Mike passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after his courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Patti (Duncliffe) Somers of 48 years. Loving father of Adam Somers (Erin Porter) and Katie Walmsley (Rick Walmsley). Loved O-Gee of Zoë, Axel, Poppy, Danica and Oakley. Brother of Dan Somers and Matt and Bernadette Somers. Brother-in-law of Barbara and Bob Laing, Lynda Duncliffe and Alan Stannard. Predeceased by his sisters-in-law Rita Somers and Norma Stannard. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Mikes biggest passion was his family. His love for his children and grandchildren shone through to any one he talked to. Growing up, Mike enjoyed hockey, guitar and spending time with his lifelong love Patti (together 56 years). He had several jobs, including the railroad and Bell, before founding his passion project, the Conestoga Bird Feed Company. This combined two of his loves, love for birds and love for being his own boss. Mike loved fishing, camping, hunting, music, teaching, the cabin, woodworking, hobby farming and taking youth under his wing to learn the farm life (you know who you are). Thanks to all who visited and kept Mike in their thoughts and prayers. He truly enjoyed seeing those he loved. Thank you also to the nurses, PSW’s and staff at Bayshore. We really appreciate all of their excellent care for Mike. Celebration of life will be held at the Marybourough Community Centre, Ball Avenue in Moorefield Ontario on Saturday August 15th 2026 at 11:30am followed by a reception and visiting to share memories of Mike with his family. As expressions of sympathy, donation to Christy’s Legacy Foundation or Brooksong Retreat & Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home Drayton.
