Sleeman’s gives $100,000 to Guelph General Hospital

GUELPH – Sleeman Breweries Ltd. donated $100,000 to Guelph General Hospital’s Together, We Care campaign.

The hospital’s foundation announced the donation on Jan. 14.

“Announcing such a wonderfully generous gift is a great way to kick off the New Year,” commented The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital’s CEO Suzanne Bone. “Sleeman Breweries is a long-time supporter of our Hospital and we are most grateful to them for making a significant contribution once again.”

The gift from Sleeman Breweries will support the $34 million Together, We Care campaign, the Foundation’s most urgent community fundraising project ever.

The goal of the campaign is to fund the expansion of both the emergency department and special care nursery as well as invest in new patient care equipment and technology.

“Guelph General Hospital plays a vital role in our community and it is our pleasure to come forward to assist our dedicated health care professionals in continuing to provide excellent care with vital new equipment needed” said John Sleeman, founder and chairman of Sleeman Breweries Ltd.

“We make this donation in honour of our employees in appreciation for their hard work and dedication. We all take great pride in being part of the Guelph community and recognize the role we can all play in keeping our residents safe and healthy.”

Martin Durocher, VP of human resources at Sleeman, gave a shout-out to front-line health workers.

‘Tireless work’

“We would also like to extend a huge thank you to staff, physicians and volunteers at the Guelph General Hospital for their tireless work during the pandemic,” he said.

“This past year has shown us how important it is to maintain our hospitals with equipment that helps us be prepared for unprecedented challenges.”

The hospital’s president and CEO said the pandemic has underscored the important work of hospitals and the need for the expansion.

“Gifts like this enable us to purchase the equipment and technology that helps us save lives and improve health. We couldn’t do it without our community’s support and we are so appreciative to Sleeman Breweries for helping us provide the highest quality care and experience to our patients,” said Marianne Walker.

In addition to the campaign gift, Sleeman also sponsored January’s 50/50 Hospital Lottery for Guelph General Hospital by providing two $500 early bird prizes.

The early bird draw was on Jan. 15
