SKERRITT Mervin Gordon
August 29th, 1953 - March 3rd, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who left us after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 29th, 1953, Mervin Gordon Skerritt of Alma lived his life with a positive attitude and strong values of hard work, loyalty, and a sense of humour. Merv faced his life’s challenges with resilience and met his illness with the same bravery and dignity that characterized his life. A lifelong hockey fan, Merv rarely missed a game – whether cheering from the living room or taking in one of his Grandchildren’s games from the stands, Merv always loved the game. When Merv wasn’t watching hockey, he was busy with his lifelong hobby of collecting hockey cards. His commitment to his community was equally remarkable. He volunteered his time generously and was involved with many sports teams over the years including Alma minor baseball, Elora minor baseball, Elora hockey, WOAA senior hockey, intercounty baseball, Elora Mohawks and the Elora Rocks hockey club. Merv was also a valued member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 275 where he was also the bar manager. Mervin is survived by his mother Margaret Skerritt (Tosh), wife Marlene Skerrit (Brubacher), children Tom Hahn (Nicole), Angie McNamara (Paul), and Bob Hahn (Ashley) and grandchildren Owen and Emma Hahn, Mary and Timothy McNamara and Liam and Kinsley Hahn. Visitation was at Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South in Fergus, on Saturday March 7th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A celebration of life was held at the Fergus Legion on Monday March 9th from 1pm - 4pm. Donations can be made to the Groves Memorial Hospital and the Fergus Legion. The family of Merv would like to show our immense gratitude to the Dr.’s and Nurses of Groves Memorial Hospital and the staff and volunteers of WRHN Cancer Clinic.
