SHANTZ, Ruth Irene (Jantzi)
of Drayton passed into the presence of the Lord on May 30, 2026 at the age of 90 years. She was the beloved wife and faithful partner of Lyall for over 60 years. Ruth loved life and people. One of her greatest joys in life was feeding family and friends and was legendary for her pies and buns. She was a busy woman, active in gardening, quilting, many church activities, volunteering in the community and investing countless hours in her grandchildren. She always had time for fun and games and especially for a good visit. Sadly missed by her four children Kevin (Sharon), Dale (Melodie), Randy (Karen) and Luanne Noble (Corrie). She was deeply loved by her eleven grandchildren Beth, Tory, Alex, Matt, Steven (deceased), Hanika, Jemcah, Domonique, Micayla, Joel and Samantha and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Paul (Hanne). She was predeceased by her husband Lyall, her parents Rudy and Susanna Jantzi and her sisters Naomi and Ellen. Ruth’s family received family and friends at Community Mennonite Fellowship, 109 Wellington Street S., Drayton on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00pm and from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Funeral service on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Community Mennonite Fellowship at 11:00am. Interment at Drayton Victoria Cemetery later in the day. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Drayton Food Bank or Mennonite Central Committee are appreciated and can be made through Heritage Funeral Home, Drayton. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Barnswallow Place in Elmira for their loving care to Ruth during the last year of her life.
