Shantytown returns to the Fergus Sportsplex on Sept. 21 and 22.

On Sept. 10, councillor Mary Lloyd spoke briefly on the upcoming event at the Sportsplex in Fergus.

She said the event is being held in support of The Door youth program.

“It is an effort from The Door for fundraising, but it also provides an experience of what it is like to live out on the streets [and at the mercy of the weather].”

It also give people an idea of what it is like for those who are forced by circumstance to live on the streets.

Last year, Lloyd was one of about 30 individuals who took part. She added that she intends to do so again this year.

The Door offers youths a place to meet, providing such things as table tennis, billiards and music lessons, among its many programs.
