Seniors learn about reflexology at dining program

Helen Edwards and Jenni Spies from the Seniors’ Centre for Excellence welcomed guest speaker Janna Dodds and 35 seniors to congregate dining on Dec. 20 at Knox United Church in Clifford.

A festive turkey luncheon was served, with pie for dessert along with home-baked shortbread cookies compliments of Karen Campbell.

Reflexologist Janna Dodds invited Willa Wick to be her model and join her for a reflexology treatment. Through her training sessions starting in 1989, Janna learned that your feet, hands, and ears are a mirror image of the body.

Applying gentle pressure to points along the feet, can bring the body into balance, improve circulation, help rid the body of toxins, and aid in relaxation. As Dodda inched her hands along Wick’s foot pressing with her thumb, she explained the specific point and how it relates to the head, neck, back, organs, legs, and feet.

All the reflex points are pressed three times during a session to really stir up the system. When she presses on a spot that feels tender or sore, it is a signal that the health of that particular part of the body is in distress and may be of a medical concern. Dodd’s finishes each session with a foot and leg massage.

Each client’s needs vary as they may require a weekly treatment or a monthly maintenance session.

After a time for questions, she reminded everyone reflexology is a preventative treatment to keep your glands and organs clean to work at opitmal levels and improve the natural functioning of the body.
