Financial representative impostors

Be on alert for fraudsters posing as your bank or investment firm advisor.

For telephone calls you receive never give out any personal or financial information.

Ask for the department they are calling from, look up the number, and call them back to ensure it is legitimate.

Taking these steps can help to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft. If you are tricked into giving out your personal information call the police at 1-888-310-1122 to report it.

Benefits of colouring

I think we can all recall a memory of our children, grandchildren or perhaps ourselves perched at the kitchen table immersed in working at a colouring page from school.

It reminds me of the excitement of getting a fresh package of eight colouring pencils to start the new school year.

Imagine my delight, when in my role as a social worker with the Family Health Team, I began to hear positive information and research about the benefits of colouring for adults.

Some of these benefits include relieving stress and reducing anxiety. Adult colouring helps calm the amygdala, which is the brain’s fear/stress centre, while also stimulating the areas in the brain responsible for creativity, concentration, and fine motor skills.

In preparation for trying this, find a few coloured pencils or crayons and either purchase a colouring book or print off a free image from the internet. I’d recommend that you start with simpler images.

Then, I encourage you to give it a try the next time you notice that you are feeling stressed.

You’ll notice that quickly your attention will be shifted away from what is worrying you as you focus on the picture and/or what colours to use.
