The search for a new treasurer here could be nearing a conclusion, according to CAO Mike Givens, who is also serving as the township’s temporary treasurer.
Givens reported to council at its Jan. 13 meeting that he has been working with municipal consultant Nigel Bellchamber, of N.G. Bellchamber and Associates, in the hiring process, including candidate interviews.
Givens was hired after Wellington North treasurer John Jeffery was terminated from the post last May.
Givens was later promoted to CAO and instructed by council to undertake the hiring process for a new treasurer.
“Mr. Bellchamber was in receipt of nine applicants for the position,” Givens said in his report to council.
“Mr. Bellchamber’s review and analysis of the applicants resulted in a list of three candidates for first interviews.
“First interviews were scheduled and completed with the three applicants on the evening of Jan. 8.”
A second round of interviews was expected to take place on Jan. 16.
“Based on a positive second interview, I anticipate presenting a potential candidate to all of council within the next four to five weeks,” Givens said.
“Obviously consideration of notice the candidate would need to provide to a current employer and the establishment of a comprehensive employment agreement will impact any potential start date for a new treasurer.”
The CAO credited treasury staff with putting in the “extra effort to ensure that the township does not fall behind.”
