SCHNEIDER, Mert

Meredith ‘Mert’ Melvin Schneider of Wallace Township passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 13, 2021, on the same century family farm home where he was born on March 10, 1946, and resided all of his life. Husband of Nancy (Berlett) Schneider of 47 years. Father of Angela Schneider, Jason Schneider & Kristy Perrin, Paul & Chrissie Schneider, and Darrell & Christina Schneider, and grandfather of Cole, Owen, Noah, Reid, Jonathan, Clara, Hailey, Cora, and Hudson, all of Palmerston. Predeceased by his parents Melvin & Cora (Bramhill) Schneider, sister Verna Metcalfe, parents-in-law Reuben & Martha Berlett, and sister-in-law Marion Berlett. Mert focused his life on family, farming, and politics. He achieved many goals in life, including serving the local municipal council for 39 years, where he was Reeve of Wallace Township for 10 years, and Warden of Perth Country for 2 years. Mert was a very successful farmer, and expanded his farming operation right up to the end. He was a dedicated member of his community, and enjoyed many years with the Palmerston Agricultural Society. Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm. A private family funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 11:00am. The service will be live-streamed and we ask you to watch safely from your home. Interment in Palmerston Cemetery. Memorial donations to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
