Savvy students

Dear Editor:

I wanted to send a note to compliment the students from John Black Public School in Fergus, who submitted letters to the Advertiser over the past several weeks.

I also want to give kudos to the school for keeping this project part of their curriculum. I look forward to reading these every year. I think this project might even date back to the days of the Fergus-Elora News Express publication?

The topics (I counted at least 10) are as varied as the opinions about them that are voiced by the authors. I think it’s a wonderful example of teaching the next generation that their opinions matter and being shown how they can be expressed in peaceful and constructive ways.

They identify something that they see as an issue, give reasons behind their opinion and offer solutions. Problem solving 101.

Keep up the good work and enjoy your summer break.

Kari Clifford,
Fergus
