HARRISTON – Minto’s first Santa Claus parade of the year is fast approaching and will be held in Harriston.
On Nov. 22 the jolly man is set to arrive, spreading joy and well wishes to the Harriston community.
“This year we’ve got public skating and a visit with Santa before the parade from 4 until 6pm at the Harriston Arena,” parade chair Mitch Loos told the Community News.
The arena is located at 111 George St. S.
The free skate will give families the opportunity to spend some time together and pose for a photo with Santa.
“The parade itself starts at 7pm,” he said.
The one-hour parade will begin on Louise Street, travel to Main Street, down Young Street East and conclude at the arena.
“We don’t do pre-registration so it’s more or less just show up on the night of,” Loos said.
Those wanting to take part in the parade can line up at 6pm on John Street North.
Loos is expecting 30 to 40 floats to participate this year.
Each of the three firefighters associations in Minto organize the parades in their respective communities. This event will be hosted and organized once again by the Harriston Firefighters Association.
“There are prizes for the best decorated floats,” said Loos. Cash prizes include $100 for first place, $75 for second; and $50 for third.
There is no theme for this year’s parade, Loos noted.
The Clifford parade is slated for Nov. 29 and Palmerston’s follows on Dec. 6.
