FERGUS – The Fergus Grand Theatre’s 2022-2023 presenting series continues on Nov. 4 with Sansei: The Storyteller, a story that examines Japanese internment camps through spoken word and dance.

“This play surprised me,” says Theatre Coordinator Eric Goudie.

“I thought it would be a heavy show, but it’s not. This is a deeply entertaining and enchanting little piece of theatre.”

Sansei examines one of Canada’s darkest moments. On Dec. 7, 1941, an attack on Pearl Harbor triggered the internment and dispossession of tens of thousands of Japanese Canadians living along Canada’s west coast.

Through an engaging blend of dance, spoken word, historical audio, family interviews, and unexpected humour, Kunji Mark Ikeda weaves an illuminating tale that is profoundly personal.

It offers Ikeda’s observations about the internment, his discovery of where he came from, and how his family navigated their histories.

This show is the second of eight in the Fergus Grand Theatre’s Better Together Presenting series. Single tickets for all shows are now on sale.

Tickets are available in the box office, by phone at 519-787-1981, or online at www.fergusgrandtheatre.ca.

“This play is something special,” says Goudie. “You don’t want to miss it.”
