REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK: Full council chambers a sign of the season

These days, there are more candidates than delegations at local council meetings in Minto and Wellington North.

In truth, at a recent council meeting in Kenilworth, there was just enough room for the delegations, as most of the chairs in the gallery were filled with potential members of council.

Oddly, except for special occasions, those chairs are vacant for most of the council term.

Municipal connections

Another interest item of note is the connections that many candidates seem to have with current municipal or county operations.

County council candidate Gary Williamson currently is employed as Wellington North’s Manager of Public Works, but is set to retire from that position in 2011.

Acclaimed county councillor Mark MacKenzie is employed by Wellington North’s recreation department.

Jim Heinbuch’s connection is with Wellington North CAO/Clerk Lori Heinbuch.

Wellington County clerk Scott Wilson is bidding for a seat on the Town of Orangeville council. He is an incumbent there, having been elected in 2006.
