Redneck spirit shines through for 5th anniversary event in Minto

Just as Eddie Rabbit Loves a Rainy Night, it takes more than a bit of rain to dampen the Redneck spirit in Minto.

Spirits were strong at last weekend’s fifth annual Canadian Redneck Games in Minto.

Mayor David Anderson said there was a great comedy night at the Palmerston community centre with participation from all over the place.

He added the committee had done a great job putting an eventful day today, capped off with Corb Lund concert.

Anderson predicted sunny weather later that day, and “We’re ready to kick ’er off.”

He introduced Perth-Wellington MPP?John Wilkinson.

Wilkinson said he was at the event speaking on behalf of Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism.

Wilkinson said the province invested $35,000 in it’s Celebrate Ontario program to make more of the Redneck Games.

Part of that money was used to attract people from not just Perth and Wellington Counties  but from across the province, Wilkinson said.

“This is just one of the great things we do in Ontario, which is to celebrate our local communities.”

Once again, Wilkinson was given the honour of lighting the ceremonial toilet.

“As we say in Minto, let’s get ’er done.”
