Rae appointed to Ford cabinet
TORONTO – Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae has been appointed to cabinet as associate minister of energy-intensive industries as of Sept. 10.
Rae, who was previously chief government whip and parliamentary assistant to the housing minister, will work under Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce.
“It is an honour to continue serving the good people of Perth-Wellington and Ontario in this new role,” Rae said in a news release, adding he wants to help “build the next generation of made-in-Canada energy, to power the most competitive economy in the G7.”
Rae’s appointment was part of Premier Doug Ford’s larger cabinet shuffle.
“President Trump is once again taking aim at Ontario’s economy with his latest round of tariffs and anti-trade measures,” Ford said in a news release.
“We’re preparing for the long haul, and that means putting the right team in place,” Ford added, in part.
Rae was first elected in 2022, and was re-elected in 2025.
