Puslinch Volunteer of the Year award nominations now open

ABERFOYLE – Puslinch Volunteer of the Year Award nominations are now open.

The award recognizes those “who demonstrate generosity of time and spirit by achieving outstanding results as a volunteer, inspiring others to service or making an extraordinary contribution to a community benefit organization or by championing an issue,” states the announcement in the March 4 agenda package.

Nominations and details are available at puslinch.ca or by calling the township office at 519-763-1226. Nominations close on March 31.

“It’s good to recognize our volunteers,” said councillor John Sepulis.

“I look forward to seeing who gets nominated,” councillor Sara Bailey added.

Councillor Jessica Goyda said she hopes councillors will encourage community members to submit nominations.

“It would be nice to ensure that those that deserve to be recognized are (being recognized),” she said.

Goyda added the recreation committee is in the process of trying to put together a “display to recognize the past and also be used for future Volunteer of the Years to showcase those residents to the rest of our community, possibly in the community centre.”

The committee is working with township staff and hopes a report can come the next council meeting.

“Pass my thanks along to the rec committee for that initiative because it’s important that the people who contribute so much to the betterment of our community, you know other people, beyond those of us sitting in this chamber, get a chance to know who they are and what they’ve contributed,” said council meeting chair Matthew Bulmer.

“So thank you.”

Mayor James Seeley was absent at the March 4 meeting.
