The Push for Change is coming through the Guelph-Wellington region in December.
Vancouver native Joe Roberts, once a homeless teenager fighting addiction himself, is on a walk across Canada to end youth homelessness. Roberts, who turned his life around and became a successful businessman, is pushing a shopping cart as a symbol of homelessness on his journey, which began in St. John’s, Newfoundland on May 1.
The Push for Change walk will include more than 400 community events in all 10 provinces and three territories. It is slated to wrap up in Vancouver on Sept. 30, 2017.
Between Dec. 20 and 23, Roberts will be in this area. He will appear at several locations around Guelph, including a gala fundraiser at the Guelph Delta on Stone Road on Dec. 20. During that time he’ll walk through parts of Erin and Guelph-Eramosa.
Wellington OPP Inspector Scott Lawson advised Wellington County council on the local segment of the walk at the Oct. 27 meeting, noting, “the OPP have been there every step of Joe’s walk in Ontario.”
Lawson said Roberts’ goal is to raise 50 cents per Canadian, or $17 million to aid in the goal of ending youth homelessness.
