Proposal at festival; couple will tie the ‘celtic’ knot

FERGUS – Steeped in the tradition of the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games, it’s no surprise that Jamie Trask asked Amryah Uddin to marry him at this year’s festival.

Except it was a surprise to just about everyone, as captured in the photo.

Jamie is the son of Warren Trask and a heavy events athlete, and Amryah is a former highland dancer who won her first trophy at the festival some years ago.

They met in Grade 8 and have been sweethearts since high school.

“They’ve been best friends for 12 years,” said Amryah’s mother Julia Uddin in a phone interview.

So it was expected that they’d get married some day.

But the proposal, “was a surprise to us all. Just look at Jamie’s grandparents (in the background of the shot). They are so happy. That makes this the best photo.”

Jamie proposed outside the heavy events tent in front of many onlookers.

“Once people realized what was happening, they all cheered. It was a proud moment,” Julia added.

The happy couple, who live together in Guelph, is planning a wedding in September 2024.
