Town council has a new procedural bylaw.

On March 22, councillors here approved the bylaw as drafted by Jane Steller.

It was her last act on behalf of the town, originally having been brought in to act as clerk.

Steller said the rewrite of the bylaw was to ensure it complies with existing legislation and reflected the procedures currently being implemented by the Town of Minto.

“The Municipal Act requires that the bylaw meets the requirements of transparency and accountability.”

She added a comprehensive review was undertaken and the previous bylaw was substantially amended to reflect the necessary updates.

Steller said the draft was reviewed by department heads and a copy was forward to a representative from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.

That person “responded indicating that they had no concerns and further commenting that the bylaw was very comprehensive.”
