The second meeting of the Erin 4H Poultry club was held at Mimosa Church.

Before I describe the meeting, I need to make a correction about one of the leader’s names - Gary Brown.

Sorry about the mistake on your last name! We started the meeting by judging eggs. You judge eggs by shape, cleanliness, size, and weight. I had no idea there was so many ways to look at eggs.

Then we talked about how to take care of baby chicks. We also did a fun game about caring for chickens.

The highlight of the meeting was when our baby chicks came into the room.

They were so loud that we stopped what we were doing. The leaders drew names out of a bucket and we got to pick out our chicks in that order. We each chose 4 chicks that were Isi Red, Black Sex-link, or mixed cross breed. We brought 8 home this year since my sister is in the club as well.

We will have lots of eggs this fall! The cute little fuzzy chicks are settling in nicely and already we are noticing that the downy feathers are being replaced by longer wing and tail feathers. We hope to introduce you to Grumpy, Sleepy, Dopey, Sneezy, Doc, Happy, Bashful and last but not least Snow White at the Erin Fair! Stay tuned for the next meeting when we are building our show boxes!
