Pollination Guelph symposium explores Indigenous wisdom at April 11 event
GUELPH – Pollination Guelph’s symposium, celebrating pollinators and community conservation efforts, is back for its 16th event on April 11 from 9am to 4pm at the Victoria Park East Golf Club, 1096 Victoria Rd. S. Guelph.
Doors will open at 8:30am.
This year’s theme is “Indigenous Wisdom and Pollinator Conservation” and the symposium will explore the relationship between the land and pollinators of the local community as well as across southern Ontario.
“We will dive into how traditional ecological knowledge, storytelling and Indigenous-led stewardship can guide us toward more resilient and reciprocal ways of protecting our native bees, butterflies and the ecosystems they sustain,” officials stated in a press release.
“The symposium features five Ontario speakers who will share their experiences and stories about what we can learn from and how to apply Indigenous wisdom to our approaches to pollinator conservation.”
Community organizations will also have information displays on topics from native plants to pollinator identification.
Tickets are $80 plus tax (or a discounted ticket rate for students and BIPOC of $30 plus tax), and are available via Eventbrite.
Refreshments, lunch and parking are included as part of the registration.
“Since we have moved to hosting our popular symposium every other year, we’ve been excitingly planning for this one and look forward to seeing attendees and supporters as we have every year we’ve held this event,” stated Pollination Guelph co-chair Clare Irwin.
Whether a seasoned gardener or just curious about pollinators, this symposium is for you, officials say.
“Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to learn, connect and be inspired,” they add.
