Pedestrian bridge model should be investigated
Councillor Wayne Stokley wonders if the funding model for one pedestrian walkway might bridge the funding gap for the eventual replacement of Stroy’s bridge here.
On Jan. 4, Stokley referred to Grand River Conservation Authority meeting minutes that noted last year’s installation of a 75-metre span pedestrian bridge was hoisted into place over the Grand River near the Doon Valley Golf Course.
The arch truss bridge will provide a link to the Walter Bean Grand River Trail.
Stokley had spoken to Wellington County planner Sarah Wilhelm about it in terms of bridges and installations crossing waterways in the area. “This may be something we look at down the line in our own municipality.”
Stokley wanted to know more about the funding model and how it links into the Walter Bean trail. “It may help us,” he said referring to local active transportation plans. He noted it could impact future plans for Puslinch, and said one option council may consider is the replacement of the Stroy’s Bridge river crossing.
