GUELPH – Kyle Reaburn was appointed to fill a trustee vacancy at the Upper Grand District School Board during a special board meeting on Oct. 20.
A trustee vacancy ad hoc committee met on Sept. 30, Oct. 1, and Oct. 6 to review applications submitted for the trustee vacancy for Ward 6, which covers Puslinch and a portion of Guelph.
On Oct. 6, the committee interviewed three candidates and recommended that Reaburn be appointed.
Reaburn ran for school board trustee in the 2022 municipal and school board elections.
His background is in government relations and the not-for-profit healthcare sector.
Reaburn will serve as trustee for the remainder of the 2022 to 2026 term, filling a seat left vacant after Katherine Hauser was selected to fill a vacancy on Guelph City council.
Reaburn was raised in Palmerston and attended Palmerston Public School and Norwell District Secondary School before attending the University of Guelph.
Board chair Ralf Mesenbrink said Reaburn “has life experiences in rural and urban areas of our board, which will serve him well in Ward 6 and the Township of Puslinch.
“He has shown a commitment to equity, collaboration and communication with the public, as well as a deep understanding of policy and its impact on both organizations and the public served by those organizations.”
Reaburn said “I’m eager to work alongside families, educators and my fellow trustees to strengthen public education in our community.
“Together, we can all create learning environments that inspire confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.”
