NORTH WELLINGTON – Legion Week is a chance for Legions to showcase the work they do for their communities. This year the celebration will run from Sept. 21 to 27.
Palmerston
“We’d like to promote the Legion in our towns and let them know what we do,” Palmerston Legion president John Grobbo told the Advertiser.
The Palmerston Legion will be participating in Legion Week with an open house and Message concert on Sept. 21 from 2 to 4pm at 260 Daly St. Doors will open at 1:30pm.
The Message is a band with two Canadian Forces veterans and members of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Admission is by donation, with proceeds and Message CD sales going directly to the Homes for Heroes Foundation in support of Canada’s homeless veterans.
“We’re looking forward to meeting some new people,” Grobbo said.
The Legion will be open from 1 to 5pm for anyone wanting to learn more about Legion work.
“Very few people know how much the Legion does for our cities and towns,” he said. “It’s a chance for us to showcase our work.”
This will be the only event for Legion Week as the Legion is “light on the ground for volunteers,” Grobbo said.
“If you want to do something for your country then join a Legion because whatever you do … it goes directly to community building,” he said.
