PALMERSTON – Engines are revving up just in time for Palmerston’s 20th annual Car and Truck Show.
The event is slated for Aug. 24 from 8am to 3pm at the Palmerston Lions Heritage Park (Main St. E.).
The cars will be placed at the pavilion in the park.
Those interested in showing off their ride can purchase an entry ticket for $10 – those coming to admire get in for free.
“It’s not a big car show but people enjoy it,” car show committee member Dwight Robinson told the Advertiser. “It’s gotten better every year.”
Organizers hope for around 175 cars in attendance to raise funds for charity.
Last year the show raised $3,600 and donated the funds to the Palmerston and District Hospital MRI campaign.
Robinson noted the group doesn’t set a fundraising goal but “just hopes for a good crowd,” he said.
The committee is still in discussion regarding this year’s donation recipient.
Pete Henderson was one of the original show founders. After he passed the committee decided to honour and remember him by introducing “Pete’s Pick.”
“We as a committee pick an [attendee] that has supported our show for a long time,” Robinson said. “And every anniversary year is always one of our [committee] members.”
The two cars crowned this year is a 1967 Swing Fender Dodge and a 1969 Econoline Ford van.
Although no big changes will be made to the event for the 20th milestone, the first 100 vehicles will receive a dash plaque with the anniversary date.
“Our motto for the show is ‘If you’re proud of it, we want to see it,’” Robinson said.
“We don’t care if it’s a car, a tractor or motorcycle. If you’re proud of it, you can bring it to our show and show it off.”
The committee will announce winners for various gas gift cards at the end of the event.
Show sponsors Minto Optimist Club are expected to have a food booth available at the pavilion from 10am to 3pm.
