FERGUS – A representative for Offside Sports Bar and Grill has told the Advertiser a water leak is responsible for a month-long closure, with no end in sight.

The downtown Fergus business wasn't forced to close in January, said the individual, who is not being identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Rather the owners are erring on the side of caution with the amount of water that has leaked into the building.

The owners are working with the building landlord on repairs, they said, adding there's no anticipated reopening date.

"It is a slow time of year anyway," the person noted. "Hopefully it will work out."

Offside opened in August 2023 in a St. Andrew Street West location where several other restaurants have come and gone over the years.

It's owned by Logan and Melissa Orobono, and Cory and Kirsten Witteveen.

On behalf of the group, Melissa Orobono declined to comment, stating in an email, "We have decided we do not want to speak to the public about our situation."
