In Loving Memory of Frederick David Robert Oates

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our adored father and grandpa, Frederick David Robert Oates, who passed away peacefully on April 27th, 2026. Fred was born on April 8th, 1928 in Manchester, England. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Evelyn, his parents Charles and Florence, and his beloved son, David. Family was the centre of Fred’s life. He was a devoted father to six children: Cindy Shannon (Kevin), Randy (Char), Ross (Brenda), Bonnie, Murray (Sue), and David (Christine). Fred was a proud grandpa and poppy to many grandchildren, and a great-grandpa to even more. His love and commitment to his family shaped the lives of those around him and left a lasting legacy. Special thanks to the amazing doctors and nurses in the blue unit at Groves Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion during Fred’s final days. The kindness and support provided by the hospital staff is deeply appreciated by the family. We are so blessed with all of the cherished moments and memories that we were able to share with this incredible man. Fred’s presence and spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. A Legion service was held to honour Frederick on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 1:30 pm, followed by a memorial visitation, 2:00pm - 4:00pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus, ON. Memorial donations may be made to Groves Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are entrusted with the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home.
