OATES, Evelyn Jean

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our adored wife, mother and grandmother, Evelyn Jean Oates (McKenzie), who passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2026. Evelyn was born March 22, 1937, in Guelph. She is predeceased by her parents Florence and Murray, siblings Isabel, Dorthy, Don and Ross and beloved son, David. Family was the centre of Evelyn’s life. Survived by her loving husband, Fred. Evelyn was mother to six, Cindy Shannon (Kevin), Randy (Char), Ross (Brenda), Bonnie, Murray (Sue), and David (Christine). Proud grandma to many grandkids and great-grandma to more. Special thanks to the amazing Doctors and nurses in the purple unit at Groves Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion. We are so blessed with all of the cherished moments and memories that we were able to share with this incredible woman. As per Evelyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus from 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Memorial donations may be made to Groves Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are entrusted with the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home.
