‘Not just a slogan’
Dear Editor:
RE: ‘Support local,’ Oct. 8.
Bravo! I was delighted to see your letter in the Advertiser championing the idea of “support local.” It needed to be said – and it deserves to be said again.
I’m relatively new to Elora, and have been astonished by the negativity expressed by a surprising number of people in town about the number of visitors we attract; visitors who bring their dollars and cents with them!
I imagine that our merchants, retailers and restaurateurs, whose livelihoods depend in part on tourism, are very happy to see them.
Ironically, some of the people I’ve heard express the strongest opposition to visitors are often those who don’t actually shop locally themselves, preferring instead to shop at big-box stores in Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, and beyond.
“Support local” is not just a slogan!
Mary Anne Divjak,
Elora
