No one injured in Fergus vehicle fire
One SUV destroyed, two other vehicles damaged in April 7 fire
FERGUS – The Centre Wellington fire department responded to a vehicle fire around 9:30am on April 7 in the parking lot at 217 Scotland St. in Fergus.
One vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and the vehicles on either side sustained considerable damage.
Deputy fire chief Jonathan Karn said the fire caused a “substantial fuel leak” in the centre vehicle.
Public works brought a load of sand to contain the fuel and stop any runoff.
“Because it’s a private parking lot, the maintenance company will do the hazmat clean-up,” Karn said, adding the fire seems to have started in the dashboard of the vehicle.
“Often with fires like that it’s mechanical or an electrical component,” Karn said.
While smoke drifted toward the condo building, there was no fire in the building, Karn said, and no injuries.
Karn suggested damages to the three vehicles could be upwards of $100,000.
