No assist for double booking

Councillors here will not reimburse Mount Forest Minor Hockey for costs incurred by a double booking for an alumni game.

The matter came up at Wellington North’s recreation committee when member Doug McLellan asked the hall costs paid in Drayton be reimbursed.

The Drayton hall was needed because a wedding was booked prior to minor hockey needing it for its annual event. During discussions, the committee pointed out minor hockey officials had not booked the hall for their event. Although the recreation committee recommended council reimburse the group, council discussions took a different turn.

Councillor John Matusinec asked if it was double booked.

Councillor Bob Mason, who chairs the recreation committee, said it wasn’t really a double booking. “Minor Hockey just assumed they’d get it.” he said.

Prior to the event, the bride to be made two inquiries if the weekend was booked and the answer she received was “No.”

Typically, the hockey group does get the hall for that weekend, so it believed the booking should have been automatic.

Council’s decision was not to reimburse the group for the costs.
