ERIN – Tom Connors Park, named after the legendary Canadian country and folk singer/songwriters Stompin’ Tom Connors, was one of nearly 40 street and park names approved by Erin council last week.

The names, approved during a Sept. 24 meeting of council, span across three subdivisions in Erin and Hillsburgh.

Tom Connors Park will be located in a subdivision at 5552 8th Line and 5520 8th Line planned by Coscorp Inc. and Mattamy Homes.

Connors settled in Erin Township just north of Ballinafad in 1975 and resided there with his wife Lena for nearly 40 years.

Connors passed from kidney failure at the age of 77 in March of 2013 and was buried in the Erin Union Cemetery.

Other prominent names on the Erin street and park list included David Sinclair, who served as town councillor in the early 1920s, and five members of the Nodwell family, documented property owners and a historic pioneer family.

A full list of approved street and park names can be found on the Sept. 24 council agenda.
