A simple ribbon cutting marked a new chapter in downtown Fergus.

On May 28, Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj joined with local vendors for the launch of the Fergus General Store and Market in the former James Russell store along the main street of Fergus.

Market manager Marg Townsend seemed pleased with the morning’s proceedings and said Michael Smith is the owner of the Russell Building.

“The [existing] market needed a little bit of attention, and so we brought in new management.”

As a result, considerable work has been done on the interior and a revamping of the food vendors booths.

She added existing vendors have brought in additional products.

Townsend said plans for the future include a fruit vendor and enhancement of the vegetable offerings - it’s all food related.
