Neighbourwoods seeking volunteers to remove buckthorn from parks
CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Elora Environment Centre, through its Neighbourwoods program, is seeking volunteers to help with invasive plant removal, specifically buckthorn.
European Buckthorn is an aggressive, invasive shrub that is encroaching on native plants and degrading the park ecosystems, officials say.
Two dates are planned: Oct. 18 at Confederation Park in Fergus and Nov. 1 at Haylock Park in Elora.
Volunteers can earn volunteer hours (high school students), will help improve community green spaces, will learn and connect with others, spend time outdoors and make a real impact, officials say.
