NEAR, Glen John
Of Arthur who was straight laced and stubborn to the end passed away peacefully at the Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus on Saturday, March 14, 2026 in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Evelyne for 55 years. Dear father of Lisa Benninger (Jason), Raymond Near and Tammy Stortz (Don). Cherished grandfather of Carie Stroszka (Thom), Sabrina Stroszka, Belanna Stortz, Cayman Stortz and Chase Near. Brother of Earl Near (Jacoba) and brother-in-law of John Vandenbrink (Sandy). Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his parents Emma and John Near. Glen worked at Bearmore plant in Acton until plant closed then full time farmer. He loved participating in tractor pulls including lawn mower pulls which he participated in for many years. His love of the tractor pulls Inspired so many others to pick up the sport. He was a first place winner in so many events. Glen was always smoking his pipe and tinkering in his shop. There was always some project that he was working on and the quick quikery way to fix that project. To honour Glen’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, 243 George Street Arthur on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The memorial service of remembrance will be held in the Arthur United Church on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy donations to Groves Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
