NDSS girls’ curling team headed to OFSAA Championships
PALMERSTON – The Norwell District Secondary School varsity girls’ curling team is preparing to represent its school on the provincial stage this week as it travels to Thunder Bay to compete at the OFSAA 2026 Curling Championships.
The event runs from March 25 to 28 at the Port Arthur Curling Centre.
Five team members, Kate W., Leah M., Chloe D., Olivia D. and Ellie R., along with coach Jeff Shortt, will make the trip north following an impressive run through regional competition, officials say.
The team’s journey to the provincial championship was highlighted by a dramatic victory at the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) regional championships earlier this month, officials say.
Hosted at the Palmerston Curling Club, the Norwell squad defeated Owen Sound in the semi-final before facing St. John’s from Brantford in a tightly contested final.
Earlier in the postseason, Norwell also hosted the District 4 Curling Championships at the Palmerston Curling Club, where both the boys’ and girls’ teams captured district titles to advance to CWOSSA.
The Norwell girls now set their sights on the provincial championship in Thunder Bay.
The team and coaching staff expressed gratitude to the local businesses, service groups and community clubs whose generous support helped make the trip to the provincial championships possible, officials say.
