Another familiar name will be on the ballot in this October’s municipal elections.

Councillor John Matusinec announced Monday night that he intends to run for Ward 4 in Wellington North.

The remainder of the current council had already announced their plans at meetings earlier this year.

Current Mayor Mike Broomhead and councillor Ross Chaulk are contesting the mayor’s seat while Dan Yake will again seek a councillor seat.

Councillor Bob Mason will not be seeking re-election.

Chaulk later added he has had calls from a few people wondering what exactly is required to run for municipal council.

“There’s still interest out there, and more than likely more people will be putting their names forward in the next little while,” said Chaulk.

There is general interest out there, but whether it turns out people file nomination papers remains to be seen, he added.

“We’ll wait and see.”

On the county level, clerk Lori Heinbuch commented that Jim Heinbuch has filed papers seeking election as Ward 4 county councillor - a position currently held by Lynda White.
