Motets Through the Centuries: A Journey in Sacred Choral Music

ELORA – The Elora Singers are slated to host a Soup and Song: Motets Through the Centuries concert on Feb. 7.

Officials describe the event as “a journey across five centuries of sacred music.”

The concert explores the depth and breadth of the choral motet, from the luminous polyphony of the Renaissance (Palestrina, Josquin) and the serene mastery of J.S. Bach’s Komm, Jesu, komm, to its transformation in the hands of modern composers such as William Harris, James MacMillan, and Arvo Pärt.

Through these works, The Elora Singers trace an evolving musical form that has inspired composers and listeners alike for generations.

In the resonant acoustics of St. John’s Anglican Church, this program offers a rare and captivating exploration of the motet’s timeless beauty and profound emotional range.

The soup lunch is to beign at 12:30pm with the concert following at 2:30pm at St. John’s Anglican Church.

Adults tickets are available for $55, student are $20 and children 12 and under for $10.

The soup lunch is an additional $25.
