MITCHELL, George Allan
Of Rothsay, On. passed away at Palmerston Hospital on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the age of 93. Husband of the late Norma McIntyre Mitchell (2022) for 71 years; Father of Sylvia and her family – Emilie (Nate), Shawn (Poppy), and Jasmine; Debbie; Mark and his family – Angi (Gord) and Michael; Robbie (Tara) and his family – Morgan, Samantha (Ryley) and Jennifer (Tyson); Lorraine (Tom). Cherished Great Grampy of Ivy (Brandon), Olivia, Logan, Mitchell and RJ and Great-Great Grampy of Liam. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews and his neighbours. Predeceased by his daughter, Patricia and his siblings: Mary, Elwood, Frances, and Gladys. Born at home on Concession 14 of Mapleton, George was the youngest of the family. At the age of 14, he quit school to help operate his parents dairy farm. He continued to have a dairy and beef operation, later switching to cash crop. George was often heard saying, “Hard work never hurt anyone” and “If a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” He was determined to be successful in all of his endeavours: family, farming, 4-H, selling machinery, curling, golfing, and serving as President of Peel and Maryborough Insurance. Many happy times were spent at Sauble Beach, Pike Lake, and Port Elgin. He enjoyed telling stories around the campfire. George lived a full life and was proud of his family. He always was willing to listen to his family and offer advice. The tradition of Caesar Sundays will never be the same. We greatly miss you Dad, Uncle, and Grampy. A private family interment will be held at Derryadd Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 from 2:00 to 6:00pm at 8232 Con 14, Moorefield, Mitchell’s Shop (Rob and Tara). If you wish to make a donation, please consider a hospice or London Children’s Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Cameron, Caressant Care in Harriston, and Diane and Kendra Speers, for their care and kindness. Arrangements entrusted to the Heritage Funeral Home, Palmerston.
