Minto hosting annual New Year’s Eve party

PALMERSTON – The Town of Minto, Minto Fire and the Palmerston Lions Club have joined forces to host Minto’s annual Fire and Ice Family New Year’s Eve Party.

Guests can expect “the same kind of fun as they’ve always had at the fire and ice event,” town director of economic and community development Belinda Wick-Graham told the Community News.

The event is slated for Dec. 31 from 6 to 8pm at the Palmerston and District Community Centre Complex.

During the event guests can participate in a public skate while listening to tunes from DJ Cody.

There will also be a blacksmithing demonstration with Ryan Leis and a performance by fire artist Steve Goodtime.

“Hopefully the weather cooperates so we can have fire pits and s’more kits [outside],” Wick-Graham said.

A magician will also be roaming around the arena.

Admission will be by donation and there is no need to register in advance.

There will be a limited number of skaters on the ice “so if the ice is at capacity [guests] might have to wait for others to get off,” Wick-Graham said.

The event will also include food booths, glitter tattoos and face painting.

“Blessings to You is a major sponsor and helps to pay for all the other extra fun stuff happening the night of the event,” Wick-Graham said.

At 8pm the Palmerston Lions Club will be setting off fireworks for guests to enjoy.

Event organizers are expecting a “few thousand people” to show up, as has been the case in previous years.

The fireworks show will be postponed to Jan. 1 if there are issues with the weather.
