MCARTHUR, David “Dave” Paul
With great sadness, the family of Dave McArthur announces his peaceful passing at home on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in his 79th year. Dave was the beloved husband of Edith (Allan) for over 55 years, and a proud father to Barb (Jayson Potts) and Stephanie (Travis Backx). His greatest joy and favourite role in life was being Grandpa to Andrew and Alex Potts. Dave was born to Duncan and Elizabeth at Palmerston Hospital in 1947. He was predeceased by his brother Peter, and will be fondly remembered by his sisters Linda (Ken), Margie, and Joan (Robert), as well as sisters-in-law June, Brenda and Linda (Jim). Dave was known for his infectious laugh—one that could brighten a room and lift the spirits of everyone around him. He valued good visits with friends, whether around the kitchen table or out in the yard, and always looked forward to time spent together. He especially cherished holiday gatherings with family, particularly the Adams reunion. A lifelong farmer, Dave had a deep appreciation for the land and found great joy in the simple pleasure of a drive through the countryside. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed winter trips to Florida. In recent years, he took great pleasure in looking after the horses with his grandsons and was always happiest when the next generation of nieces and nephews came to visit. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Team for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Dave in his final weeks. Special thanks to Brenda Allan, Edith’s sister, for her unwavering support, expertise, and compassion throughout this difficult time. Dave will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A private family funeral was be held, with spring interment at Bethesda Cemetery. A casual come and go celebration of life will be held at Dave and Edith’s residence 7432, Wellington Road 11, Mapleton on Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 1:30 to 4:00pm. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Drayton Food Bank or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Heritage Funeral Home, Drayton.
