MINTO – In August, Minto  hosted its 16th annual Mayor’s Golf Tournament at the Pike Lake Golf and Country Club.

Tawnya Robertson, deputy treasurer and revenue coordination with the town, provided an update to council at its Oct. 6 meeting.

She said there were 144 golfers registered, and Minto “had another very successful” tournament with “beautiful weather.”

With the support of the community, the event raised enough money to donate $4,250 to four different groups: Minto Vikings hardball, Palmerston Marlins softball, the Community Resource Centre and the Harriston Homecoming Committee 2028.

“Mayor Turton has often spoken about the importance of volunteers and the impact that they have on our community, and so it is my pleasure to present the proceeds from this year’s tournament to the very deserving volunteers with us today,” said Robertson.

“We certainly have four very worthwhile organizations,” said Turton.

Started by past Mayor George Bridge and Janet Klemp, Turton said the golf tournament has “helped so many groups in our community that we’re just going to try and keep it going.”
