Though there were no commitments, Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever is pleased with a recent meeting with Ontario Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca about the Highway 6 bypass around Morriston.

The meeting occurred during the recent Rural Ontario Municipalities of Ontario sessions.

“The meeting went very well and was upbeat, though there were no commitments.”

Lever said the “mood of the discussion was optimistic from everyone’s viewpoint.

“I don’t think I heard any negatives in the room ... something that couldn’t be said of some other meetings in the past with other ministries.”

Lever said he remained hopeful the Morriston bypass reaches the provincial five-year plan. Both township council and members of the business community remained committed and focussed on the need for a Highway 6 bypass around Morriston village, said Lever.

He noted that over the years, there have been a number of items appearing in the provincial five-year plan, though they were not specifically included in the budget.

Lever noted both he and Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott asked if there was any timetable - but there was no committal.

As a result, Lever said he remained optimistic.

He noted he read recently that the province remained committed to the eastward expansion of Highway 401 out to Townline near Hespeler Road.

“Money is still being spent in the local area,” said Lever.
