Mary Ellen Cann School of Highland Dance competed at Fergus Scottish Festival
Highland dancers - From the wee lassies to the senior dancers, students from the Mary Ellen Cann School of Highland Dance had success at the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games on the weekend of Aug. 9 to 11. Primary and beginner dancers including: Cerys Hobbs of Guelph, Celine Broeckel of Guelph, Leah-Rose Gamble of Guelph, Charlotte Smillie of Guelph and Evelyn Morton of Rockwood all placed in their competitions. Gamble also won the Beginner Trophy Fling and Broeckel won runner up. Intermediate dancers Kira Bourque and Stephanie MacRae, both of Guelph, brought home a number of awards. Bourque was the Overall Trophy winner, followed by McRae as runner up, in their group for both Highland and National Competitions. Bourque also earned the Fergus Scottish Festival Scholarship for Overall Intermediate during the National Competition as well as the Intermediate Sprit Award. Premier dancers Maggie Cumming of Fergus and Mackenzie Mollison of Guelph also had a great festival. Cumming earned a placing in the Premier Championship as well as the runner up trophy in the Restricted Premier Highland Competition. Mollison won the most coveted prize of the games, she was the winner of the draw for airfare to Scotland.
