Mapleton Chamber of Commerce hosts Meet the Candidates evening
DRAYTON – The Mapleton Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet the Candidates evening for the 2026 Municipal Election on Oct. 7 at the Drayton Festival Theatre.
Doors will open at 6pm, providing residents with an opportunity to meet and network with candidates before the formal program begins at 7pm.
The evening is scheduled to conclude by 10pm.
“This evening is about giving Mapleton residents an opportunity to hear directly from the people who are asking to represent them,” says the Mapleton Chamber of Commerce.
“We want candidates to share their strengths, priorities and vision for Mapleton and give residents a better understanding of what each hopes to accomplish if elected.”
The event is designed as a Meet the Candidates, not a debate. Each candidate will have two minutes to introduce themselves and outline their priorities, followed by a moderated question-and-answer period.
Candidates will have one minute to respond to each question and will also receive one minute for closing remarks.
Residents are encouraged to submit questions for the candidates.
Questions may be submitted in advance or in writing during the event.
To keep the evening organized and ensure candidates have an equal opportunity to respond, questions will not be taken verbally from the floor.
All submitted questions will be reviewed by the chamber team and may be grouped, combined or prioritized based on available time, relevance and similar themes.
Submission of a question does not guarantee that it will be asked during the program.
The chamber encourages questions that focus on municipal issues, candidates’ priorities, proposed actions and their vision for the future of Mapleton.
Residents will also have an opportunity to hear from representatives who have been acclaimed to their positions for the coming term.
Invitations are being extended to the acclaimed County councillor, as well as trustees representing the Conseil Scolaire Viamonde, Wellington Catholic District School Board and Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir.
These representatives will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and share what they hope to accomplish during the coming term.
The Drayton United Church Dinner is also taking place that evening. Residents are encouraged to enjoy dinner at the church and then head over to the Drayton Festival Theatre for the Meet the Candidates event.
