MALLETT, David Lloyd George

of Harriston passed away at Hamilton General Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Monday, February 16, 2026, in his 77th year. Husband of Mary Lou (McTaggart) Mallett. Father of Amy and Peter Hertz of West Montrose, and Kyle and Charlotte Mallett of Shelburne.  Dave adored his grandchildren Julianna and Stanley Hertz, and his granddogs Reese and Cabbie. Brother of Joan Scott of Meaford, Patricia and Luke Miltenburg of Schomberg, and Sue Kelly of Mount Forest, and brother-in-law of Wayne and Cherie McTaggart of Listowel.  Remembered also by his nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by parents Lloyd and Pearl (Jackson) Mallett, brother James Mallett, sister-in-law Patricia Mallett, brothers-in-law Frank Kelly and William Scott, and parents-in-law Stan and Wilma (Brindley) McTaggart. Dave, or Hammer as he was affectionately known, left a mark on all who knew and loved him. Hammer couldn’t walk into a room without seeing a friend and perhaps this was because no matter where he went, he would always seek people out with a smile, a story, and a connection. In town, Hammer was the guy who everyone knew they could count on. Whether it was helping out at church, or volunteering at the food bank, or just giving someone a ride to an appointment, Dave was always there and ready to lend a helping hand. Throughout his life, Dave loved spending time with friends and family, especially in the outdoors. Dave was happiest when he was on the move, and he loved camping, hiking, biking, and he especially loved taking his favourite pups for a stroll. Dave and his wife Mary Lou had many wonderful adventures together throughout their 49 years of marriage. They loved dancing together and especially loved travelling around Canada on road trips. Most recently, their travels took them to Newfoundland for a fall trip that had been on their bucket list for a long time. No matter where their adventures took them though, they always found a trail to walk or bike on and a cute place to enjoy an ice cream or a pint afterward. As a dad and as a grandpa, Dave was simply the best. He was patient and kind, always willing to do whatever he could to help his kids, and he instilled in them a love for community and helping others. In his retirement, Dave got to spend lots of quality time with his grandkids, who held a special place in his heart. He was always up for a park or a beach adventure, and he never tired of pushing his favourite little people on the swings. We will all miss you dearly, Hammer. Visitation was held the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, on Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service was held at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 11:00am. Rev. Kathy Morden officiating. The funeral was livestreamed and the link is available on the funeral home website. Spring interment in Harriston Cemetery. Memorial donations to Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, Mark Preece Family House (Hospital Family Houses of Ontario), Hamilton, or to the Harriston Foodbank would be appreciated.
