A soft-starter switch malfunction at the Mount Forest Sportsplex on Sept. 27 resulted in the cancellation of the Patriots game against the Walkerton Hawks scheduled for 8pm that evening.

Director of Recreation, Parks and Facilities Barry Lavers said township officials initially thought the compressor motor was down, but that was not the case.

The facility also did not in fact lose its ice surface, Lavers said..

“We managed to run on 150 horsepower, but with one pump running (the ice) would be maintained but that’s all, it wouldn’t hold – maybe in January it would have, but it’s been warmer this September than it was in July,” he said.

The Patriots alerted the public of the cancellation via Twitter at 3pm that afternoon and the game has been rescheduled.

Repairs were completed on Sept. 28.
