‘Questionable’
Dear Editor:
RE: ‘Stupidity,’ Feb. 12.
Wow, so many questionable statements and viewpoints in this miasma of a letter.
I suspect it’s the product of confirmation bias and a serious misunderstanding of current events and history.
It reminded me of a favorite line from that classic film A Fish Called Wanda, in which Jamie Lee Curtis says to Kevin Kline, “It’s not enough just to read Nietzsche; you also have to understand it.”

‘Courteous, helpful’
Dear Editor:
RE: Township says contractor on hook for warped roads in Fergus, Elora, Jan. 29.
Unfortunately, we live in Canada and at times construction has to pause due to adverse weather conditions.
I am a resident of Colborne Street, situated right in the middle of the section that has been under construction since June.
We were clearly informed by both Drexler Construction and township employees that work would have to end for the season and that a temporary asphalt road surface would be installed.
They apologized for any inconvenience that this would cause.
Throughout this whole time period both the township and Drexler’s employees have been courteous, helpful, considerate and supportive as Colborne Street has undergone a major overhaul.
Looking on the bright side, the uneven road surface means that most of the traffic travels at the posted speed limit – bonus!

‘Refreshing’ MP move
Dear Editor:
It is refreshing to learn that Mr. Mike Dawson, a Conservative MP from New Brunswick, has requested that he not be given the automatic pay raise on April 1.
My understanding is that in 2010, 13 members of parliament voted to not take pay raises for a period to help with deficits, etc. It is commendable that we have a Conservative MP taking steps to do this and show leadership in recognizing what the average Canadian is enduring with the economy and finances of our nation not doing well, and many people losing jobs and facing high prices.
I know the Conservatives understand how the country got to this state: with unchecked spending by the Liberal government. Mr. Dawson, through a selfless action, has set a precedent in these times of economic turndown in Canada, for common sense budgetary restraint in spending by our federal government and for all levels of our government to help.
I recently heard news that our governor general was given another huge raise and also flew a large group of people along with her on a trip to Greenland. Why does the spending by the Liberals continue to go on? They just don’t stop, do they?
It is so refreshing for Canadians that a Conservative representative made the move to say to voters, you matter and the finances of Canada matter – and he committed to making a difference by refusing the pay raise.
We need this type of leadership badly in our nation and we won’t get it from Liberals.
Carolann Krusky,
Fergus
