‘Even trade’
Dear Editor:

So U.S. President Donald Trump wants to take over Greenland/Maybe Denmark should suggest that they take over Puerto Rico as it is a semi-autonomous country to the United States.

I’m sure people of Greenland have had enough of cold weather and would enjoy some sunshine and warmth.

Better still, make an even trade (no tariffs included) and avoid gun boat deployment.

U.S. ‘values democracy’
Dear Editor:

Don’t fall for Carney’s trip to China to negotiate rather than doing everything he could have done to negotiate with U.S. President Donald Trump or even other ally countries.

Carney is doing it again.

Carney has an election coming and he is trying his best to make this another Trump election. We are not being successful supporting these dangerous moves with China.   Mr. Carney is playing Canadians again.

Canadians needs a leader who will address what Canadians need and Carney is very wrong for our nation.  Stand up in this next election and don’t be duped again by a leader like Carney who has not proven to be “consistent,” to put it politely, and has led Canada into economic mess with lack of support for the real needs of Canadians.

It is only now that he has even shown concern for our economy and pipelines. Watch and see. He wants our oil sold to China, a communist country, rather than negotiate with our neighbours to the south who value democracy and freedom and who would help us defend these values in a war situation.

China won’t defend democracy and freedom. No good will ultimately come from this. Don’t be fooled; Canadians are being sold out.

I believe the last time Carney visited China was to negotiate a $250-million loan for Brookfield Asset Management from the Bank of China.

Also, why isn’t our press talking to the Venezuelans who had to escape with virtually nothing to come to Canada and are happy the dictatorship in Venezuela is removed. Could Trump be right?

Canadians, we must not be duped again!   Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has the experience, the drive and Canadian values to lead with integrity and truth.

Ask Michael  Kovrig,  who was held by China for 1,019 days what he thinks of Carney’s trip to negotiate with China. Or ask Sam Cooper, a  Canadian investigative reporter and author of Wilful Blindness, what he knows of China’s interference in Canada’s political system and other?

Please vote for freedom and democracy in Canada and vote for Poilievre. Carney’s proposed laws all reflect control and his agenda, not our agenda as Canadian voters. Carney took with him to China Markham–Unionville MP Michael Ma, a Conservative who crossed the floor to become a Liberal and betrayed his voters.

Canada needs to stand on guard for our democracy and freedom.  Please use critical thinking and vote for freedom and democracy in the next election, not Mr. Carney.

Carolann Krusky,
Fergus

‘Better off for it’
Dear Editor:

RE: “Feckless admiration,” Jan. 8.

I do not see anything adverse in the remarks of local MP Michael Chong or Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on the U.S. capture of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro.

Don’t get me wrong, this changes nothing about the ongoing antics of U.S. President Donald Trump. But I think we should always separate for a minute the issue versus the player to keep everything in context. Maduro in our hemisphere was as vicious as any in faraway places where dictators are killing and jailing their opponents. It’s no secret he was financing his regime via cooperation with Columbian cartels.

Let’s also not forget that prior Democrat and Republican presidents who are well cherished, all all way back to JFK, have taken both covert CIA and open military actions in countries in attempts to either kill or capture leaders.

Poilievre and Chong only stated that a brutal illegitimate corrupt person was captured and we are better off for it.

Liked letter
Dear Editor:

RE: “Positive change,” Jan. 15.

This is one of the best written letters that I have read in the Wellington Advertiser since we moved to Elora in 2024 (and your standards are pretty high).

It identified the traffic congestion around the school as the problem, the negative impact impatient drivers have on our children, offered ways to rectify the issues and stressed how important safety is in all we do.

Kudos to Kate Ann Vandermeer. I hope your letter truly initiates “positive change.”

Barb Schuett,

‘Stay brave’
Dear Editor:

It’s 6am. The morning air outside the window is thick with snowflakes.

On my white refrigerator door are two scraps of paper. One , a long slim image of a blond war-amps child arms outstretched, joy in her smile, running with a prosthetic leg. The other is a note to self: “It’s the small acts, the resilience, the triumph of hope over experience” – and I remember another note on a bulletin board years ago – “It’s not that one must first have the skill and then proceed, but in proceeding, there comes the expertise with which to look.”

These are the white days of winter.

Cold, tingling fingers wielding snow shovels, the sounds of ice  scrapers on morning windshields,  the flashing lights of pivoting community snow plows.

Stay brave. Happy New Year.

Thanks to road crews
Dear Editor:

At this time of year with all the winter weather we’ve been having, storms and whiteouts, thank you to all our Puslinch Township and Wellington County road crews, the OPP and all emergency services.

You guys have done a fantastic job of keeping our roads clear and safe.

The work you do is much appreciated.
