MacKenzie: lobby for social housing

As one affordable housing construction project draws to a close, Minto might be next in line seeking affordable housing funds in the future.

In a report to Minto council, Wellington County councillor Mark MacKenzie recommended that the town lobby for the 2011 round of funding.

Councillor Barb Burrows said MacKenzie is strongly suggesting, “and he did speak to me at some length a while back, that Minto lobby for the 2011 funding for affordable housing.

“Are we going to investigate that?” she asked. “Is there a need?”

Mayor David  Anderson said the county has done a study that shows there is a need for affordable housing in north Wellington.

“But are we going to follow through with an application?”

Anderson said there are a number of factors to consider, but there is definitely a need.

The study has been done, but Anderson said he believes the application has to be done through the province, as it picks up a portion of the cost.
